So, my blog, blog.benad.me is finally on Squarespace. To summarize the setup:
I still have to finish customizing the (fully customizable) CSS of my blog to somewhat match my main site, but I'm not in the rush for that.
A few immediate reactions about the new setup:
- Squarespace is fast. And I mean fast. I've tried LiveJournal, Tumblr, Posterous and Wordpress, and all tasks like loading pages and using the search box are several times faster on Squarespace. I guess you get what you pay for.
- Squarespace's main and only business is their site and blog hosting using their own software, and is profitable. Not a "for sale" startup or a part of a bigger conglomerate that will gladly sell your data.
- Professional at last. Everything's using my domain
benad.me
, and they're all on professional, real, reliable wb hosting (Squarespace and Fused).
On my TODO list:
- Autopost and/or cross-post semi-manually posts to a backup blog. Likely my oldest and most reliable copy on benad.livejournal.com.
- Any way to post with markdown email on Squarespace? Email posting works, but plaintext only.
So, here goes nothing.
