It is apparent that with Mac OS X 10.8 “Mountain Lion” that the Mac desktop was brought ever closed to iOS. But one of such convergence was quite unexpected.
If for some reason you have to deal with WPA2 Enterprise, you had surely noticed that most of its settings are completely missing from the latest version of the Network control panel. The features weren’t removed though. Instead, and quite oddly, you’ll have to load a network configuration profile. If you ever had to do this for an iPhone using the iPhone Configuration Utility, then you will be familiar on how to create such profile. Because its exactly the same.
Yes, you can create configuration profiles for networking using the iPhone Configuration Utility and load them on your Mac. They will show up in a new Profiles control panel that is normally hidden. I don’t mind the “synergy”, but I would have appreciated even the slightest hint that Mac now supports those configuration profiles, because otherwise I would have just assumed the utility was made only for the iPhone, ’cause “iPhone” is in the name.
